Visit and Debate
Central Coast Dance Festival
The whole
school danced in The Central Coast Dance Festival at Laycock
Street Theatre. The theme was the riparian zone and the dance
was integrated into our unit of environmental work. Students
were dressed as lizards, butterflies, birds and water. A giant
puppet was borrowed from StarStruck. We had lots of fun!
Central Coast Environment Network Poster Competition
Congratulations to Lochie in Year 2 for winning 1 of 5 awards in
this competition. His theme was “Don’t Litter!”
Bush
Dance and Book Week
For
Bookweek this year we held a family Bushdance! It tied in nicely
with our theme on early Australia and convicts. Students and
parents joined in & dressed for the occasion too! We had
wenches, convicts and soldiers all dancing the heel & toe polka,
among other dances that we learnt at school throughout Terms 2 &
3.
Chess Competition
Our school
chess team entered the Intermediate Division of the schools’
competition and came in 2nd place to Wyong School.
This was a great effort as our team had 2 junior members! Well
done Brydie, Maddy, Josh & Tom!
Visit by Healthy Harry – Life Education
Healthy
Harold visited again and our friends from Yarramalong School
joined us for the day! Thanks for a great program Amy!
Public Speaking
Alex was
the Zone Winner in her age group for the 2nd year
running! Not bad for a little girl who has just turned 7 years
old! She is a super public speaker and may take out the Hunter
District Award next year!!
Art work displayed at Gosford Regional Gallery
Our
Indigenous art work was displayed at the Gallery in May for the
2nd year running, as part of the Aboriginal My Story
Display. This is a great opportunity to promote community
harmony and tolerance. All students from K-6 had their artwork
on show. Click here to
see some of our art work.
Canberra
Excursion
The whole
school from K-6 (plus some very keen mums and dads) enjoyed 3
days at the snow and Canberra late in Term 3, as part of our
unit of work on Government. It was a great experience for all!
Questacon, Parliament House, The AIS and of course the snow
were highlights!! It must have been very cold because one Kindy
asked, “Where are the penguins?”
Westfield Shop for your School
We won 1st
prize in the Westfield Shop for your Schools Promotion, thanks
to the hard work from our mums and dads and friends in the
community. We won a new digi camera, a laptop, a printer and a
whiteboard. Thankyou to Westfields for sponsoring this
competition.
Frog
Night
We held a
frog information night at our school early in October. Sam from
WaterWatch helped to organise it. We swa a great PowerPoint, ate
some tasty hamburgers and went frog spotlighting. This was a
terrific start to our unit of work on frogs!!

Newcastle Herald Competition
“The
Wyong Creek Croaker” was again published in the Newcastle Herald
early in 2006. The Croaker has become a yearly tradition to
highlight our school and our community in the news. We find out
if we win any prizes in November. Well done to all our budding
journalists from Years 2-6!
Today Show
Our Video
was selected to appear on Today Show “Australia’s Super School”.
We were very excited! The video showed highlights of our
school’s activities. Although we didn’t win, it was great to be
a finalist!!
NBN Stars
We were
interviewed by NBN News for our win in the State Web Awards. It
was exciting to watch ourselves on TV!
Investing In Our Schools
Our Multi
Purpose Court and Covered Outdoor Environmental Classroom are
now both completed. They are great assets to our school. We
thank the Federal Government for making this money available to
us!
CC Education Awards for Staff and Parents
Congratulations to our hard working parents and staff on
receiving an award: Brett, Janelle, Helen and Steve. Thankyou
for all the work that you for us at school! It was particularly
pleasing to see Janelle at the awards!
Operation Christmas Box
Almost
every child donated gifts in a box for needy children in third
world countries. We also sponsor a little girl through World
Vision – Jacinta in Kenya. Money is raised by ice-cream days.
Wyong Creek promotes the values of caring, understanding and
tolerance through programs such as these. We are currently
collecting Christmas presents for needy Australian families.
They will be given to the Smith Family. Please drop them to the
office on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
Channel Ten Program
This week we had a visit from the Channel Ten program "The Total
News" to talk about the effect of the drought and some of our
water saving programs. This program aired on The presenters were very impressed with our skills in front of
the camera and excited about many of the projects we have underway.
P
& C News
We had a
very successful Wyong Creek ‘Ball in the Hall’ and Trivia Night
this year to raise money for our school. Our group works hard to
help provide resources so that our children get the best
education possible.
We are
friendly and welcoming. We believe strongly that the school and
home should work together as a team, so our children benefit.
Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday on every month.
